About Us
Marquette-Alger Regional Education Service Agency (Marquette-Alger RESA) is one of 56 regional education service agencies (also known as intermediate schools districts) established by Michigan law in 1962. Marquette-Alger RESA employs approximately 200 staff members and serves both Marquette and Alger counties, supporting twelve local public school districts and one public school academy, encompassing approximately 9,000 students.

Marquette-Alger RESA supports its constituent districts to provide high-quality education while maximizing resources through coordinated specialized programs and shared services. Core services include:
- Special Education Services and Oversight — Ensuring personalized learning and success for every student, including operation of four specialized classroom programs designed to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities across the region.
Early Childhood Services — Nurturing the development of the youngest learners from the very beginning, ensuring children and families receive the foundational support needed for future academic success.
Professional Learning — Providing cutting-edge professional development opportunities for educators, administrators, and school business officials, featuring both regional events and access to nationally recognized education leaders.
Career and Technical Education — Equipping students with the practical skills, hands-on experience, and knowledge they need to pursue fulfilling career pathways after graduation.
Wellness/Mental Health Support — Promoting student well-being by providing mental health resources, services, and support to students and local districts, helping to address the social and emotional needs essential to academic success and healthy development.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) — Providing robust support to local districts, empowering educators to create inclusive and effective learning environments.
Instructional Technology Support — Leveraging technology to enhance learning and engagement across classrooms, and supporting districts in integrating effective digital tools into instruction.
School Business Services — Providing sound financial management and efficient operations for the agency and its constituent districts, including serving as the business office for some of the local districts in the region.
Homeless Services and Supports — Removing barriers and ensuring equitable access to education for students and families experiencing housing instability throughout Marquette and Alger counties.
- Legislative Advocacy — Championing the needs of students and educators at the state and federal levels, ensuring the region's voice is represented in policy decisions that affect public education.
