MARESA's school nursing program supports the health and safety of students across Marquette and Alger county school districts. Our registered nurses work collaboratively with school staff, families, and community health providers to ensure every student has access to the health services they need to thrive in the classroom.
Services Provided
School nurses provide information and training on Health Education Mandates (example; Medication Training, immunizations etc.). They assist schools with the development of Medical Action Plans (e.g. Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy, Anaphylaxis) and Communicable Disease Planning (e.g. RSV, Flu, COVID-19, etc.)
In addition, school nurses help schools with Epinephrine Auto-injector and Naloxone orders/policies/training, as well as AHA CPR/AED/First Aid training. These services ensure that school personnel are equipped to respond to medical emergencies and administer life-saving interventions when needed.
Health Education and Compliance
Michigan law requires that schools address specific health education topics. MARESA school nurses help districts meet these mandates by providing curriculum guidance, staff training, and resources related to immunization compliance, vision and hearing screening, and communicable disease prevention. They also assist with maintaining accurate health records and coordinating with local health departments.
