Hands-On Career Experience
The MARESA Internship Program is a 6–10 hour per week independent study course related to a high school senior student's career pathway. Students are trained and supervised by one or more business employees at local businesses and agencies in Marquette and Alger Counties.
Participating in this hands-on experience allows students to see first-hand the importance of their studies and create valuable networking opportunities with business professionals. Exploring different careers allows students to make informed, inspired decisions about their educational and career paths.
Over the past few years, more than 150 internship sites in Marquette and Alger counties have hosted students.

How the Program Works
Students are expected to follow both internship and business site attendance rules and policies. Internship grades are assigned by the internship coordinator based on:
- Site supervisor evaluation
- Student work maturity
- Learning progress
- Daily written journal
Prior to the start, the business, parent, school, and student must all approve the training schedule and task expectations.

Application Process
Juniors should start the conversation with their counselor early — here's how the full process works.
Talk to Your Counselor
High school juniors interested in applying for a senior-year internship should contact their high school guidance counselor first.
Complete the Application
Submit an internship application along with a résumé and a recommendation from your school counselor.
Interview with the Coordinator
If your application is approved, you'll interview with the MARESA Internship Program Coordinator.
Interview with an Employer
Accepted students then interview with a local business or agency. Most students who reach this stage are placed.
Become an Employer Partner
Businesses and agencies in Marquette and Alger Counties are invited to host MARESA internship students. The MARESA Internship Coordinator works to match students with sites best aligned with their interests and Educational Development Plan.
