Driver's Education

About the Program

MARESA offers Segment 1 and Segment 2 Driver’s Education coursesfor students in Marquette and Alger counties. The courses meet state requirements — Segment 1 prepares students to earn their Level 1 learner’s permit. Segment 1 is currently enrolling for Fall 2026; Segment 2 dates will be posted here when scheduled.

Classroom sessions cover:

  • Michigan traffic laws and regulations
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Road signs, signals, and pavement markings
  • Sharing the road (pedestrians, cyclists, emergency vehicles)
  • Impaired and distracted driving awareness
  • Vehicle maintenance basics

Eligibility & Cost

  • Students must be at least 14 years and 8 months old by September 21, 2026.
  • Segment 1 costs $500.
  • Students must attend all 12 sessions to be eligible for completion.

How to Enroll

  1. Submit the registration form (opens in new tab) to request a seat.
  2. Pay the $500 fee to secure your enrollment— the form alone doesn’t hold a seat. Checks are preferred, payable at the MARESA office (321 E. Ohio Street, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM Monday–Friday).

Seats are limited and this class is expected to fill quickly: each school has reserved seats through Thursday, September 10; after that, remaining spots open to all students first come, first served.
